If you do get the 2nd tone, switch the ignition on and off again. Then wait a few seconds. and try the fob from within the car.

May 10, 2016 · The remote central locking thing on my car key does not alway lock or unlock the car. Sometimes it works right away, sometimes I have to press it dozens of times before it works, sometimes it never works at all. I've tried it at various distances and this does not seem to make a difference.

Next if you have more than ONE key then they should all be programmed together for the door locks. This is simple to do and all that is needed is a single press of any button on each fob in turn.

This is an old Mondeo trick to make Jag flip keys work on the Mk3 Mondeo (the Jag uses the same chips as the focus).
